Photographic and sound installations
A magical walk in the woods
Trees that tell stories,
Forty pulleys, two hoists and a tea kettle.
Imaginary couples, forgotten memories,
For a moment, for a song, for eternity…
.
The installations are born from the need to show images in a different way, further than the
usual way of exhibiting photos, beyond the normal boundaries of walls, public, galleries and
opening hours. We invite the public and the photos to a natural setting, back to a space with
it’s own energy.
Les Aires is a series of black and white portraits with rural subjects. The performance uses
techniques from the theatre, like appearing and disappearing, live music and other sound
effects. Together they create a surprising and sensitive visual experience.
The performance deals with universal themes like family, ancestors, marriage and love. These
elements form the poetic fibre of Les Aires. The scenario is set but for each new space, the
story is created anew, taking into account the trees, the space, the people …
We are two artists-technicians with different backgrounds like circus and street theatre. Our
project is driven by this combination of images and music. Our mixed backgrounds have lead
us to this new form of installation/performance.
The form dictates that we adapt ourselves to each new space. We create a temporary
laboratory that researches the coming together of our visuals with the existing surroundings.

“An exceptional pearl, subtle visual and auditory effects, our focus is directed
at times long past but most of all we think of love.”
Mieke Kleinleugenmors, Stentor Krant (NL) 05-06-12
“(…) Suddenly big photos appear from behind the trees, the accordion
accompanies this minimal action and brings another dimension to the forest,
silent. The performance is poetical and has greatness, it is surprising,
unexpected.”
Kerster Freriks, Theaterkrant.nl (NL) 06-06-12
“(…) the trees show us a photographic story, large and impressive black and
white portraits, a musical tune, it is a sunny performance, playfull and
luminous, here on Terschelling, Holland I feel like I am in the French
countryside!”
Gaby van der Zee, Oerol krant 2012
